Wedding Bells for Andy Lau??

Word is going around that heartthrob Andy Lau is tying the knot with his girlfriend of 24 years, Carol Chu, next month.

HONG Kong Heavenly King Andy Lau Tak-Wah and his Malaysian girlfriend Carol Chu will wed late next month.

Rumours of the 47-year-old star’s upcoming wedding have been rife, with Chu spotted shopping in Hong Kong purportedly for the bridal trousseau.

Earlier talk put the wedding date at April 6, which coincides with the former beauty queen’s 43rd birthday, as he wanted to have a “double happiness” celebration. But the latest news is that he will throw a birthday bash for her instead, with the wedding taking place late in the month.

The wedding is set to be held for three days in Kuala Lumpur after Lau’s China concert tour, which ends on April 27.

Longtime Companion, a song in Lau’s latest album, Love.Hope, is said to be his wedding gift to his beloved.

In a radio interview in Hong Kong, he described longtime companions as two who “love each other and get accustomed to it, because when they are not calculating, two people’s lives will gradually become one. There is no perfect companion as love is able to withstand gains and losses, and change your own path in life.”

The pair are said to have been together for 24 years, but have kept their relationship a secret for the sake of his career. They were finally pictured together in Kuala Lumpur last February. Talk was that they met up with Chu’s parents to discuss wedding plans.

The Feb 25 issue of Hong Kong magazine East Weekly frontpaged pictures of them, supposedly the first time the couple were pictured together.

Casually dressed in white T-shirts, the two were seated together in a restaurant chatting with half a dozen others, likely to be close friends and family members.

It was also reported (in the magazine) that Chu’s aunt told a neighbour that “Carol will marry soon, she will finally marry the star she has been waiting for, for so long .”

Lau reportedly jetted to Malaysia on Feb 10 and stayed for five days, celebrating Valentine’s Day with his lady love before returning to Hong Kong to resume work. On Feb 12, he was said to have met up with her family in a restaurant to discuss arrangements for their wedding dinner.

The venue for the wedding dinner was said to be Berjaya Times Square Hotel, owned by Chu’s uncle. Her sister also held her wedding there last year, where Lau attended as a special guest and sang for the guests.

Traditional red and gold wedding decorations were also pictured in Chu’s apartment in Kuala Lumpur, as well as a Tibetan Buddhist banner, which was said to bestow blessings on those wishing for a son.

Also pictured was Lau’s dowry offering to Chu’s family, which is said to be a RM32mil bungalow in a suburban area of Kuala Lumpur. Chu’s family is said to have moved into the house with her.

It seems that Lau “leaked the news” about his upcoming wedding when he hinted at his farewell to bachelorhood during his recent Wonderful World Tour concert in Guangzhou on March 20.

He began by asking his female fans whether they already had steady boyfriends. He then added that he was growing old and told them they need not wait for him any longer.

When posed questions about his wedding or his relationship with Chu, Lau has always maintained his privacy, often declining to comment. Even when rumours of him being gay surfaced, he did not speak up.

Well, let’s hope that news of his impending wedding will not just be rumours anymore.
